Obituary Aubrey Davidson

Aubrey joined Cable & Wireless immediately after leaving Blundell's, starting with training at their Telecommunication College at Porthcurno in Cornwall. Two initial foreign postings followed but he worked mostly at their head office in London in different departments over the years. C&W was his only employer for the whole of his working life!

At one stage of his career he was their Travel Manager and his love of travel never left him and in fact introduced him to his wife (me) then working for an airline. We subsequently travelled the world together.

Aubrey would have attributed his lifelong love of choral singing to first singing with the Blundell's Choir and certainly a choir tour to Belgium. He had a fine bass singing voice and sung for many years here and overseas with the Philharmonia (and New Philharmonia) Chorus, then 25 years with the Bach Choir, mainly under Sir David Willcocks, and finally with the London Orpheus Choir. I reckoned he had been an active singer for 60 years.

As congregations in churches could no longer sing hymns, we chose for his funeral many pieces of lovely choral music, including one in which he was singing in that recording back in 1962.
