New Archive Newsletter - The Archivium

"Thank you for all the positive feedback from the first issue of Archivium – I have been made to feel extremely welcome within the role and look forward to getting to know some of you when you are next visiting the School.

I received lots of interested emails regarding the Bisley Team Photograph on the front cover of the last issue. It’s a particular favourite of mine, least of all because the chap third from the left in the back row, J.H.D. Acland (see newsletter to view photo), is the spitting image of my friend, Tom, from Cambridge, who is a relative of his.

It is also a very poignant image in many ways as several of the young men pictured perished in the Great War. It serves as an abject reminder of the futility of such conflicts, whilst commemorating the continuing service and sense of duty instilled in our pupils here, both past and present.

There is talk of getting this set of early Officer Training Corps and Bisley Team photographs digitised for you all to enjoy, but for now I attach another from the same series, of King George V surveying the Blundell’s OTC at Windsor Park – rather apt with the upcoming celebrations for the Queen’s Jubilee." - Catherine Flavelle, Archivist (archive@blundells.org)

Inaugural Charity Art Fair Success - £3,000 for Charity!

The sun came out for the Inaugural Charity Art Fair and it was a joyous occasion with much to celebrate, especially when contrasted with recent times of social restrictions. All visitors were able to enjoy refreshments and chatter, while also taking in the creations of the seven local exhibiting artists. The artists set the scene, not only with their beautiful work, but also with their generosity; kindly giving their time to this initiative, 30% of all their sales and a raffle prize for the draw.

You can still get involved and support our local charity, CHAT, with their auction.

Auction

Free Talk - 'Power from the Hedgerows' by Penny Adie Tuesday

Hosted on 3rd May 7pm @ Blundell's Prep

ABOUT THE BOOK: It arose all because of spying a sunny hedgerow violet on the first day of lockdown. The photo that Penny took with her trusty iPhone 8 led to a collection of spectacular floral images appearing side by side with literary contributions from members of the public on the positive aspects of the pandemic. Exeter’s MP, the Rt Hon Ben Bradshaw, two homeless people, children, John Nettles, Rachel Johnson and our very own Head of Pre-Prep, Laura Clifford are just a sprinkling of those who have willingly given their thoughts.

Please see the attached flyer.

Sports Weekend Success!

What a fantastic weekend, not only from the sport, glorious sunshine but to the important camaraderie and social engagement this event provided. This was despite the absence of fives and girl’s hockey this year, and the 3 year’s participation hiatus due to the Pandemic. Boy’s hockey, football, netball and newly involved shooters keenly competed against the school teams. This keenness was also much in evidence back in the Beale Centre, where all teams and spectators enjoyed a catch up over a drink and food, provided by the OB Club. To ensure your involvement next year, please contact Janet, and to see more photos of this event please click below.
