Charity Gala Success - Over £20,000 Raised!
Thank you to everyone that supported our Annual Charity Gala Dinner and Auction, without you we could not have raised double the amount from last year!
We received over 20 fantastic prizes generously donated for our Auction with the one of top prizes being a flight in a Spitfire.
Our guests enjoyed a lovely 3 course dinner prepared by our very own Blundell's Chef, Ankur whilst enjoying music played by various students throughout the evening. We look forward to welcoming you all back next year.
All money raised will go towards Tours for bursary recipients, Blundell's Community Partnership initiatives and the School's chosen charities which this year are - CHAT (Churches Housing Action Team), Hospiscare, The Bhambayi Project and DEC (Disasters Emergency Committee).
Thank you to our sponsors of the evening; Bearnes, Hampton & Littlewood (Auctioneer and Valuers), Halo (Complete Property Renovations) and Stacks (Property Search).

Journey of Henry Knott Venn
We were kindly offered the opportunity to bring the portrait of Henry Knott Venn back home to Blundell's School. Henry Knott Venn attended Blundell's between 1828 and 1834, before matriculating at Peterhouse, Cambridge and pursuing a career as a clergymen. Beyond overseeing his various parishes and acting as chaplain for Honiton Workhouse, he was Assistant School Master at All Hallows School in Honiton, laying the foundation stone for the new building there in 1892.
However, his portrait was in Edinburgh, so we put a call out to staff to see if anyone happened to be visiting over the Summer. Linda in the Development Office just happened to be visiting family just 30 minutes away from where Henry was residing. Henry was collected then safely wrapped in bubble wrap to protect him on his eight hour journey home. Whilst his ghost is said to still haunt the upstairs of The Boston Tea Party cafe in Honiton (formerly Monkton House, where Henry lived during his lifetime), the portrait has safely arrived back home to Blundell's, and so far have been thankfully spared any signs of the supernatural!

Friend Brothers Sold Out Talk at Blundell's
At the end of last week, the four Friend brothers Jack (OH 2009-14) and Hamish (OH 2009-14) and Arthur (OH 2011-16)and Euan (FH 2011-16) enthralled a full audience in Ondaatje Hall with the tale of their row across the Atlantic completed in January this year.
They had rowed more than 3000 miles, in 32 days as part of the Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge in which they came 3rd. It is the first time that four brothers have rowed across any ocean. Alongside accomplishing this physical feat, the brothers have also used this platform to raise money for their chosen charities. One of these is our local charity, Churches Housing Action Team - CHAT, keeping people out of homelessness. The event on Friday night raised in excess of £2000, for CHAT.
The four Friend brothers were inspirational and we are proud to call them Old Blundellians. For more information here is a link to their website: www.thefriendshipatlantic.com

Welcome to Katie Kogler (NC 2003-10), our new Events Coordinator
We are pleased to announce and welcome Katie Kogler (née Maynard) back to Blundell's School. After graduating from Cardiff University, Katie has worked at a range of global companies and has built up a wealth of marketing and events experience.
She met her Austrian husband, Lukas through a fellow OB and spent a few years living in the Kitzbühel alps. Since then Katie and Lukas have built their own home near Exeter, tied the knot and now have a son called Noah.
