Obituary Roger J. Bowles

This obituary appeared in the Calgary Herald on Saturday 21st March 2015.

Roger Bowles passed away at the Rosedale Hospice, Calgary, on March 16, 2015. He was educated in England at Blundell's School, and Loughborough University, where he graduated as an electrical engineer. He immigrated to Canada in 1954. Roger is survived by his wife, Gillian, son Marc and three grandchildren, Jill and her husband Blair, Timothy and Ross. His brother, Robert, and sister, Betty predeceased him. His corporate career spanned 25 years and included employment with Shell Oil, the Federal Business Development Bank, CP Ltd. and Petro Canada. In 1980 he incorporated VIDEODEX in Calgary, which he ran until his retirement in 2004. He was hardworking but enjoyed the challenges of developing his own company. He was a highly principled man who followed his own star. Roger will be remembered for his great sense of humour and some of his quirky ideas. Secretly a cowboy at heart, Roger delighted in sponsoring chuckwagons at the Calgary Stampede - something he did for many years and that afforded him enormous enjoyment. He will be greatly missed.

In keeping with Roger's wishes, a funeral service for close family has been arranged. The family would like to thank everyone at the Rosedale Hospice for their wonderful care and support. Memorial tributes may be made directly to the Salvation Army, 1731 - 29 Street S.W. Calgary, AB, T3C 1M6, online at www.salvationarmy.ca, or by phone 403-410-1112. Condolences may be forwarded through www.mcinnisandholloway.com. In loving memory of Roger Bowles, a tree will be planted at Fish Creek Provincial Park.
