Obituary Richard Philip Broad

After Blundell’s and National Service, Richard read History and obtained his Teaching Diploma at Exeter College. His first job was at a Preparatory School in Surrey where we first met. From there he went to Portora Royal School, Enniskillen (we married after his first year) and became Headmaster of the Junior School where he helped build the new school, doubling its numbers.

We decided to return to England and he became Headmaster of Framlingham College's Junior School in Suffolk.

Finally we returned full circle to Surrey to King Edward's School, Witley - which was a total change to a fully co-educational boarding School.

Since retirement in 1989 Richard was licensed to take Church services and to assist at communion. He was on the PCC and PC for many years, Clerk to the Governors at a Special School in Honiton and Educational Advisor, wrote a book of Dunkeswell's History and a play in rhyming couplets for the Church Festival, set up several History exhibitions and edited the Parish News.

He was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed. There is to be a Thanksgiving Service in St Nicholas's, Dunkeswell, on the 14th April at 2pm and his ashes will be interred at Mary's Yate.
