Obituary Peter Byrne

This obituary was written by Mike Coe, a friend of Peter's and also an OB.

Peter Byrne (FH 1979-84) died of a brain tumour on 9 January 2015 aged 48. Nearly 600 attended the funeral, held at St Thomas’ Catholic Church, St Helier, Jersey on 28 January – it was standing room only. Pete’s brother Chris gave a poignant, brilliantly observed eulogy and afterwards hosted 300 family and friends at his home. Champagne flowed in a fitting send off at which memories celebrating Pete’s full and vibrant, albeit too short, life were shared long into the night.

Pete was an exceptional person. A true all-rounder, very intelligent and an immensely talented sportsman. He represented Blundell’s first teams in rugby, cricket and tennis and was undoubtedly one of the most naturally talented squash players the school has ever produced. Professionally he was a highly successful corporate lawyer, first in London and then in Jersey. What made him truly exceptional however were the personal qualities he displayed as a loving husband, father and as a kind, loyal and generous friend. Once met he was never forgotten. He will be sadly missed and fondly and lovingly remembered by his family, wife Fiona and three children, Issy, William and Juliette and his many, many friends. Old Blundellians in attendance were Chris Byrne, Mike Coe and Juliet Coe (née Tricks), James Hunt, John Hunt, Chris Marjoram, Ric Mason, Rachel Timms (née Temple), Jonathan Trafford and Gerald Voisin. Numerous others sent condolences.
