Obituary David Brian Dutson
The following words were provided by David's twin brother Tony, also an OB.
David Brian Dutson (FH 1981-1985) passed away at home on 4 November 2024 after a long illness aged 57. Whilst at Blundell’s he developed a love of art and it became his passion. He also took up fencing, a sport which he represented the school at. After successfully completing his A levels, he went on to study landscape architecture at university.
Upon graduating with a BA (Hons) and DipLA, David accepted a position as a landscape architect with Michel Felton Limited in Jersey. He spent the next 27 years working for the firm. A flavour of the work he undertook included housing development, industrial and public realm projects, hospice and care homes, tourist attractions, education and private gardens. In 2016, following Michael Felton’s retirement, David decided to establish his own landscape architecture practice, David Dutson & Associates. His projects primarily focused on the Channel Islands, although he also took on assignments on the mainland.
Throughout his career, David remained dedicated to his craft, combining artistic creativity with practical expertise in landscape design. His work continues to leave a lasting impact on the communities he served.
In June 2017, just weeks before his 50th birthday, David suffered a major brain haemorrhage that changed the course of his life. He was forced to retire and required live-in care for the past 6.5 years.
David never married, but his life was rich with relationships and experiences.
