Obituary Francis 'David' Harvey

David Harvey passed away in the evening of Monday, 30th September 2024.
David was a distinguished classicist and the author of important articles on Greek history and politics and co-edited a number of volumes including Crux, Essays presented to G.E.M. De Ste. Croix on the occasion of his 75th birthday (with Paul Cartledge), select essays by de Ste. Croix, Athenian Democratic Origins: And Other Essays (with Robert Parker), Lost Dramas of Classical Athens, Greek Tragic Fragments (with Fiona McHardy and James Robson), and The Rivals of Aristophanes. Studies in Old Athenian Comedy (with John Wilkins). Jointly with Hazel Harvey, he translated Karl Reinhardt’s book on Sophocles and the work was published by Blackwell’s. He was a supreme pianist and played a very active part with music at school in the early 1950s.
David was a kind, gentle and funny man, and will be missed greatly by his friends.
The funeral will be on 28th October at Exeter crematorium at 2:00pm.
