Obituary Mark Wood-Robinson

Mark was born in Madras (now Chenai) and was at O.H. from 1945 until 1948, having been to school in India thro' the war. He went on to Imperial College, London, where he tried, unsuccessfully, to read Mechanical Engineering but then went on to gain a City & Guilds diploma in Lighting Engineering.

After working at Echo, a lighting company, he went on to become Lighting Consultant for SWEB in Bristol. During this period, he did his National Service in the RAF servicing trucks. Meanwhile, through Shirley, who became his wonderful wife, he had the experience of meeting with Christ who really took charge of his life from then on! His work entailed designing the lighting, both interior and floodlighting, for nearly every cathedral and church in the SW, including Exeter, Wells, Bath (Abbey) and Bristol. He was a leading member of a church in Clifton, which later moved to a huge ex-Anglican building by the Downs, which had been BBC offices and is now bursting at the seams and provides housing for 12 students.

He and Shirley had two children, Keren and Paul, who wonderfully cared for him through his last illness.

You could say that his life, as well as his work, consists of spreading light! Mark's faith was very practical too as he raised amazing amounts of support for all sorts of people in need by taking part in numerous half-marathons and other runs. Strange as it may seem, it was a privilege, during his last rather long and painful illness, to witness his real joy and confidence in God as he looked forward to being with his Lord.
